A. John Fontana thanked everyone for selling the tickets on Saturday at Cresson. Also on June 24 detachment will sell tickets again at Cresson.

B. Need people for the pet therapy day. His mother-in-law passed away and he thanked us for the card we sat.

A. Randy said the pistol team which has four shooters Mike Bergen, Ken Coslow, Jerry Horvath, and Randy Reynolds will be leaving Friday to shoot on Saturday at the Indiantown gap.

 

B. Randy informed the detachment that the Commandant Ed Forster, Bob Lohr, Jerry Horvath, and Bill Petrunak going to the convention.

 

 

C. Bill Petrunak offered the bulldog arena, to sell tickets during thunder in the Valley.

 

 

D. Bill Davis will be leaving around July 1, 2017, but will be back on 4 July.

 

E. Bill Daisy Davis was recognized by the VC I as a supporter of veterans Pat has made 450 quilts of valor. Bill recognized for his photography.

 

 

F. JGerry Horvath says is a new policy for veterans. The a new Lowes card you need to take a DD 214 to Lowe’s.

 

 

G. Ed Forster the Commandant center November several officers will be open, and we need someone to step up to the plate.

    A. Randy mentioned about Veterans Day Parade. Start off same time, rain or shine. We will not do ceremony in the park this year

    B. Start sending in your dues now for 2018. August is the cut off for the 2017. Dates are changing for the dues, making more work for the paymasters. Send checks for $25 for members dues.

    C. Randy informed the members, that life members dues are in accordance with Age. The life memberships is 0- 35 $500, 36-50 $500, 51- 64 $300, and 65-Over $200.

    D. John Fontana apologized for not selling 64 tickets last time. Help sell tickets.

    B. Duffy Hines said there is a golf outing and the detachment's should support it. The foundation supports PA Marines in need.

    C. Duffy says there is a list of of Marines who have dropped out. Maybe they can be brought back as members. Duffy Hines said he will help the detachment to put up a program. Commandant Ed Forster and Randy the paymaster already have a plan in place.

    D. Andy Snyder's son sent a thank you letter for everyone who attended Andy;s Funeral at Arlington Cemetery.

    A. Doug Legendfelder informed the detachment that the Warriors rock will perform at the Forest Hills high school. That will be on April 22, 2017. The Veterans will be interviewed. It will be $10 for veterans. They will honor a group who is being deployed..

     

     

    B. Certificate and Pins were handed out to The 5, 10, 15, 20, year MCL members.

    C. Randy asked the members if there will be a Picnic this year? He need to know tonight. He will get back to Richland fire Hall and find out more information and will dicuss it at the next meeting.

    A. Sharing and Caring donations are in the budget and help Pittsburg Veterans on a Cruise.

    B. Doug Lengenfeder, Post 954 and John Fontana donated to the Sgt Strank Ceremony.

    C. Mike Ofsanko said the Sgt Strank was a total Success. 160 people attended and 120 people were feed at the VFW. Tribune on the Front page and had the ritual team members in the picture.Maybe we can get the Big Marines for the 75th anniversary. Rich Johns thanked the Boys Scouts for their participation.

    D. After action meeting for the Sgt Strank Ceremony, will be held tonight.

    E. Tony Sharon wants an extra key for the flag box at Coner Coffee Shop

    F. Bulldog Arena is Available for any ceremonies Bill Petrunik made the announcement. Have any Question talk to the new on coming.

    A. Chuck Hoffman read the Scholarship Fund Information. Ed Forster Commandant filed for audit.

    B. There have been 112 scholarships given out, and over $16,950 given out since the scholarship fund has been developed. The Scholarship Fund for students will go from $150 to $200 .

    C. Steve Varnish’s family Give $125.00 donation each year

     

    D. Christine the food chairman thanks John Fontana, Jerry Horvath for the tonight’s food. Ed Forster, Randy Reynolds, and Tim Lentz have the food for March.

     

    E. Christine Vogel made the announcement that the next Pet Therapy will be on July the fourth on Sunday.

    A. Michael OfSanko announce that the Sgt. Strank ceremony is coming along. He is asking John Polechk who is the Vice-President of JWF to be one of the speakers. He also is trying to get Congressman Keith Rothfus to be a speaker. Ed needs a biography on the speaker’s to make a plaque,s. Bob Eyer,s from Wessel is another possible speaker. Trying to get a high school Student to be a third speaker.

    B. Mike announce that on February 16, 2017 at 1900 or 7 PM will be the next Sgt Strank meeting. Boy Scouts have been invited.

     

    C. Mike is also trying to get a female to sing the National Anthem. There was a lot of discussion about advertising on the Radio, TV and also the newspaper.

     

    D. Michael OfSanko talked about the Camp Lejune water. He will have a phone number to call at the next meeting.

    A. Randy the paymaster was informing the members about the changes in the membership. If anyone has any questions on how the membership is being processed, feel free to come to him and ask questions about it, if you don’t quite understand. Overall starting this year all members who pay the dues annually, needs to have the dues in, no later than August of this year. The dues have not change it is still $25 a year. Reinstatement of members dues will be $20.

    B. Ed Forster informed the members that we have 21 members who are delinquent in the detachment. We are in the process of submitting letters to the delinquent and members who have not rejoined.

    C. Bud Lohar has a question about the life Membership. Once a life member passes away what happens with the money. When a life member passes away he is no longer on the life members list for the detachment. The annual PLM funds will be less in funds because of the numbers on the list.

    A. Randy informed the detachment about the budget. The budget committee members were Tim Lentz, Jerry Horvath, Ed Forster, Chuck Hoffman and Randy Reynolds. The budget meeting was held on December 28, 2016

    B. Randy read the budget which was discussed at the budget meeting. A motion was made by Bill Petruniak to accept the budget report, Jerry Horvath second the motion, and the motion was approved by the detachment.

    C. John Fontana Junior vice announced he has tickets to sell. He has scheduled February 11, 2017 at the shop and save to sell tickets. Need people to sell the tickets.

    D. Bill Smith the Sgt. At arms said that March 1, 2017 which is the next meeting is Ash Wednesday. Do we keep the date for meeting or change. The Commandant Ed Forster says keep the date.

     

    16. Announcement : Yes

    A. Doug LegendFelder said the groundhog must be a Marine. He also said that counselors can go to Recruiters to have them go to a boot camp to know what is going on. The program is great and we should support our recruiters.

    B. Doug Legendfelder also announce that April 22 is a concert at Forest Hills, at 1900 hrs. They want to pack the concert with veterans. There is a Warriors Rock Group. Get the word out. Like to get $1000 corporate sponsorship.

    C. Christine Had an article in the Richland magazine about the pet therapy, and Tales for Tails. She explained the program.

    D. Ed Forster spoke about the Hospice care.

    E. Junior vice Dwight Weaver has certificates to hand out, but they are just waiting for Pins, to give out at the same time.

    F. At the end of the meeting, Joe Babik said that the Catholic War Veterans post 954 gave $100 to league.

A. Bud Lohr thanked everyone for the Christmas party.

B. Chuck Hoffman spoke about the Homes for our Troops. A Marine Tim Debris was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Funds were sent up to help troops in need. Chuck wants the Marine Corps league to donate $125 a year. Motion was made by Chuck Hoffman, second by Pat Driscoll. The donation will come out on the scholarship fund. 90% of the funding go directly to the veterans. .Bill Davis said he will contact the VVA .

 

 

 

13. New Business: Yes

A. Michael Ofsanko, informed the detachment that the Sgt Strank VFW applied for the liquor license. The state raised the prices $950 for license. Michael OfSanko suggested to have the Sgt. Strank ceremony canceled. Michael Ofsanko made the motion and Ron shorto second. It was not voted on because people made donation of money for the ceremony to go on.

B. Rich John’s offered to chair the Sgt Strank ceremony this year. Many people offered $100 or $200 donation. Make Burgan, Ken Costlow, Doug LegendFelder and John Fontana made donations for the Sgt. Strength ceremony. The ceremony will be on February 25, 2017, at 11 AM. The guest of honor will be announced in the future. There were other amounts offered by other people.

 

C. January 14, 2017 at 1 PM will be a meeting for the Sgt. Strank ceremony, at the Franklin Borough community building . John Yourich will try to get Mary Petro to attend. Mike Ofsanko will get a hold of the Korean War vets.

 

14. Ceremony of Installation of Officers: Yes

A. Randy Reynolds the past Commandant., will install the new officers and bill Smith the Sgt-at-Arms will assist. The following personnel were sworn in as the officers for the detachment. Ed Forster Commandant, Dwight Weaver the senior vice Commandant, John Fontana Junior vice Commandant, and Ken Costlow as the Judge Advocate. Sgt at Arms reported and introduce the officers. Ed Forster inform the detachment that this would be his last year as Commandant.

A. Bill Davis thanked the four. personnel for organizing the DC trip in December. It was an excellent trip..

 

B. Ed and Randy are going to the State Department meeting this coming weekend.

C. The budget meeting was held on December 28, 2016. Randy will give out information on the budget at the next meeting. The projected budget is to be read and if there are any questions about it at the meeting. No information is to be given out to anyone about the budget. So once the budget has been looked at and has been read over, all reports will be turned back into the paymaster.

D. Randy also mention about the cost for lLfe Memberships. Depends on age. .If you have a questions please see Randy the paymaster.

B. Chuck Hoffman spoke about the Homes for our Troops. A Marine Tim Debris was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Funds were sent up to help troops in need. Chuck wants the Marine Corps league to donate $125 a year. Motion was made by Chuck Hoffman, second by Pat Driscoll. The donation will come out on the scholarship fund. 90% of the funding go directly to the veterans. .Bill Davis said he will contact the VVA .

 

 

 

 

13. New Business: Yes

 

A. Michael Ofsanko, informed the detachment that the Sgt Strank VFW applied for the liquor license. The state raised the prices $950 for license. Michael OfSanko suggested to have the Sgt. Strank ceremony canceled. Michael Ofsanko made the motion and Ron shorto second. It was not voted on because people made donation of money for the ceremony to go on.

B. Rich John’s offered to chair the Sgt Strank ceremony this year. Many people offered $100 or $200 donation. Make Burgan, Ken Costlow, Doug LegendFelder and John Fontana made donations for the Sgt. Strength ceremony. The ceremony will be on February 25, 2017, at 11 AM. The guest of honor will be announced in the future. There were other amounts offered by other people.

 

 

C. January 14, 2017 at 1 PM will be a meeting for the Sgt. Strank ceremony, at the Franklin Borough community building . John Yourich will try to get Mary Petro to attend. Mike Ofsanko will get a hold of the Korean War vets.

A. Randy Reynolds the past Commandant., will install the new officers and bill Smith the Sgt-at-Arms will assist. The following personnel were sworn in as the officers for the detachment. Ed Forster Commandant, Dwight Weaver the senior vice Commandant, John Fontana Junior vice Commandant, and Ken Costlow as the Judge Advocate. Sgt at Arms reported and introduce the officers. Ed Forster inform the detachment that this would be his last year as Commandant.

The projected budget is to be read and if there are any questions about it at the meeting. No information is to be given out to anyone about the budget. So once the budget has been looked at and has been read over, all reports will be turned back into the paymaster.

A. Elections of Officers. Duffy described the rules for the nomination of Officers. There was a discussion among Duffy and the Commandant Ed Forster about the proper procedures.

B. Ken Costlow stated that Junior Vice is an elected position and since Junior vice is not here tonight, we cannot just note a blanket note, to reelect Officers.

C. The Officers for reelection is Commandant, Judge Advocate, Junior Vice Commandant, Senior Vice, Commandant.. Nominations for these four officers. Sgt of Arms Bill Smith notes.

D. Bill Davis will be moving between March and June 2017 out of the area.

E. Tim Lentz inform the detachment about those going on DC trip need to pay $10.00 more.

F. Dwight Weaver received a card from the Marines. Dwight Weaver had cataract surgery and a new stint

C. Special Olympics gave the Detachment a “Volunteer of the Year Awarded“, for this year. The Commandant would like more to participate the Special Olympics. Also Tim Lentz, would like everyone who has not sign the sympathy list, please sign.

16. Announcement : Yes

A. On November 11, 2016 there is a Veterans Day parade downtown. Be there at 3 PM. Step off is 4 PM. After the parade there will be a ceremony by the ritual team at Central Park.

B. There is a funeral on Saturday, at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Cemetery at 11 AM.

C. The Christmas party is at St. John’s Church on December 17. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Party starts at 6 PM. Need to bring a $15 gift or a gift card. There will also be a 50-50. NO gift brought in, No gift taken out. Money has to be in by November 7, 2016.

D. There will be a lunch on Veterans Day at the Richland woods assisted living home. The ceremony starts at 11:00 am outside, and then the inside Ceremony at 11:30. Then will have Lunch with the Home Veterans.

B. The incident in Bengagi where Mark Geist who was on the roof that Lived. He is speaking in Harrisburg on October 16, 2016 the doors open at 3 PM the speech starts at 4 PM. Free autographed books to the first 500 people.

 

C. On October 19 which is a Wednesday, State Senator. Guy Resenthder prosecuted terrorist. A speech and food will be provided at the American Legion in Cresson the speech Starts at 530 to 7 PM .

A. On October 14th and 15th there is a staff meeting at the Headquarters in Indiantown Gap. We have two rooms, if anybody is interested to join myself and Commandant Ed Forster for the meeting.

A. Ed Forster inform the detachment that the Christmas party this year will be on Saturday, December 17, 2016. It will be held at St. John’s Church. Doors will open at 5:30 pm, the party will begin at 6:00 pm. The cost is $20 per couple. Rich John’s will collect money, money has to be in by November 4, 2016. Then at the party bringing $15 gift or a $15 gift card.

A. The color guard is needed for September 16 at the war Memorial to do a dedication of the new Memorial being put in. Ceremony starts at 9 AM

B. Ticket sales for December, one will be at Cresson the shop and save on September 17 need somebody. Space open also at Market Basket same date. October 22 was open. On October 8 need someone . For Cressson, Gerry Horvath and Tim Lentz volunteered for that one. October 22 someone is needed for the Market Basket. While you are selling tickets you must let the people come to you, do not be aggressive and confront them. Steger is no longer available to sell tickets, due to being over aggressive trying to sell.

A. Will be a Christmas party on December 17 at the St. John’s Church in Conemaugh. The Detachment will pay for the members and the members will pay for the spouses or friend, just $20. Bring a small $15 gift to use as a raffle.

B. Ron Shorto wanted to know if we had to have a ceremony to burn flags. It is okay to burn if you do it with respect. Do not throw in the garbage.

C. Food for next month’s meeting in October Joe Babik, Bud Gregorchik, and Ken Costlow will provide the food.

D. Michael Ofsanko the commander in the VFW Down at Franklin borough was contacted about painting the wall at the Sgt. Strength Park, to paint another design on the Wall.

 

 

 

 

 

16. Announcement : Yes

A. The detachments is a sponsor at the Bulldog Arena. There will be a comedy show at the bulldog arena on September 17. On October 1 is a free market from 7 AM to 4 PM..

B. On October 1, in the morning there will be a flag retrieval by the American Legion at all of the cemeteries where the flags were posted. Refreshments will be served after the flag retrieval.

C. Sgt. Morse the active-duty Marine about the reserve center inform the detachment that young Marines has disbanded. We look at for someone to get involved with the young Marines. The Marines there cannot participate in the as coordinators but they can help out.

D. Sgt. Morris is also the cornea for the toys for tots. Last year they took and 13,000 toys for the children the Christmas. His goal this year is a taken 16,000 toys for the children. He says he does need help working the toys. If anyone is interested see Sgt. Morris.

E. Due to not having enough officers make a quorum, the finance report will be read next month, also the scholarship will be read next month.

F. Tony Sharon made the announcement that on September 16 through the bus to Harrisburg by Doug Lingenfelder. Also working with someone making phone calls from voter registration.

G. If you get a chance check out the TNT’s bar, a Marine owns it. The Americans Legion remodeled. On November 11, at 2 PM would like us to join them for a rededication.

C. Doug LegendFelder made the announcement about the trip to DC on December 10 and December 11 2016. Will be leaving early. Sen. Toomey will get us 100 spots for the visit to the White House. The lunch for that day will be sub sandwiches. We will be visiting the museum of Natural History. Will be having dinner at the Officers Club, and then we will head for the concert at the DAR Hall. Sunday morning will have Sunday brunch also at the Officers club. Then head for the Arlington Cemetery for the tomb of the unknowns soldier and a ceremony that’s perform their. When finished there we will ahead to the Iwo Jima Memorial and other memorials if we have time. We should be back at the Lowe’s parking lot and about 6:30 PM. Again the cost is $265 for couples $175 for single. Must sign up by September 1 also put down half. By October 1 we need to have the full amount for the couples an on the single. We must have Social Security numbers to be able get into the White House.

D. On 18 August 2016 an announcement about a Veterans Task Force on soldiers and sailors. The will be Congressmen and Military personnel will attend.

A. Doug Legendfelder made the announcement that on August 20 at the Richland Community Days, The Air Force Honor Guard would be there to perform and lead the parade..

B. Tony Sharron said the League made a wise decision putting the flag box at the Bilo Store in Tony’s area.

C. Michael OfSanko said there is a controversy about the proper people on the Iwo Jima Memorial. The subject is an ongoing discussion.

D. Bill Davis said on September 19, Congressman Rothfus is having a picnic at the Que at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm for the veterans to recognition all Veterans.

E. Ron Shorto wanted to know how to nominate a person for the Marine the year. Ed Forster the Commandant said to right the name down and put in a sealed envelope.

F. Randy inform the detachment that the, Valley Veterans thanked us for given the $100 donation.

G. Veterans Day Parade is on November 11, 2016 downtown Johnstown. Step off time is 4 PM, rain or shine. Lineup will be at 3:30 PM on the same spot as last year.

H. Dwight Weaver got an email from his daughter, Lock Haven wants to interview Vietnam Veterans for an upcoming project.

I. Calendar ticket sales for December will be handed out at September meeting. Randy will take any sold or unsold tickets. 216 tickets were not sold, that is about $1085 loss to the detachment. Ed Forster the Commandant is taking care of all the tickets that will be sold in December.

Scholarship Committee report was read by Chuck Hoffman. There is $11,728 in a combined ritual and scholarship fund. Looks like only two (2) scholarships will be awarded this year. Don Myers Junior‘s granddaughter and Chuck Hoffman‘s granddaughter were the scholarships..

 

Ed announce that Rich and Stephanie Johns have the food for next months meeting.

 

 

Duffy Hines is our District 7 vice Commandant. Need photos for faces on the wall.

 

Marines for Cambria County need photos.

 

Duffy noted, that on record there was a discussion of voting for.

 

 

The Detachment decided that they wanted a picnic. Rich John’s will be Chairman and Ed Forster will get the food. The cost is $5.00 for member and $5.00 for significant other. Anyone else will be $10 per person. Picnic will be on the first Sunday in August which is 7th 2016 .

Ticket sales for the Detachment will go on these dates, July 9 at the Shop and Save in Cresson, on July 23 at Steger’s, July 7 at Cresson and July 24 at pet therapy day in Windber. And maybe we will set up a sales table at the Bulldog Arena.

Ed Forster the Commandant says he has 20 calendars for 2017 at a cost of $30 each. Write checks to Ed personally. He has already sold 4.

 

Good of the League: Yes

Membership is going well according to Randy Reynolds the Paymaster. The Life Members cost is: 0-35: $500, 36-54 $400, 55-64 $300, 65 and over $200. This is a good idea.

There was mention that the League may switch to a single month as the date for renewals. Randy brought this up at the meeting to Duffy Hines, if he knew anything of this? Duffy cannot confirm it.

A. Chuck Hoffman reported on the Scholarship Fund. Receive money from the Symon family and the Wadsworth family. We also received a thank you card for John J Symon ritual rite at his funeral.

C. Everyone is okay to go to the pet therapy day is set up your both. Christine has flyers of this if anyone needs them.

E. The Bylaw Committee was read by Ken Costlow. Amendment about Sam Nichols Memorial committee District 1. Need one committee person to be responsible for all activities on Sam Nichols, Our first Commandant. Duffy expanded on this and gave a biography of Samuel Nichols. No firearms can be brought into the cemetery where he is buried, since he was a Quaker.

F. June 22, 23rd 24th 25th and 26 is the State Convention dates.

A. There was no picnic last year,. Will we have a picnic in August this year? That’s the question. The first Sunday in August is the date that we have a picnic. At July’s meeting the detachment will vote, if are going to have it.

C. The Pistol Team which consist of Randy, Jerry ,Ken, Drew and Mike will leave on Friday. We have a good team. Randy went into detail about the types of weapons used. And it may be hot, so cover your pistol with a rag or something.

D. Randy says there will be six members going to the State Convention. Which is be held at State College at the Days Inn.

A. Duffy is the pound keeper for Pound 229.He said we have tickets to sell and wants to Known if the League members will buy tickets or sell tickets. There are 500 winners.

B. Randy is starting The Pistol Team. The team is Randy Reynolds, Jerry Horvath, Ed Forster, Mike Burgan, Drew Rand, Ken Costlow. Randy Has the Packages see him. Two types of Firing Military style or open range. Packages need to be sent in by 18 May 2016.

D. State Convention is June 22-26, three rooms are reserved. Leave on 23rd to State College. Golf tournament is on 22nd. Duffy Heintz will putt for Golfers who will donate money for the putts he makes. It is at South Mountain Fort Matilda.

E. National Convention will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

F. 21st May is kickoff to help The Family. The young man is a Marine who served in Afghanistan. He can Talk and commutate, but is in bad shape. More information will be brought at the next Meeting.

D. Doug LegendFelder spoke about naming rights for the war Memorial. I.e. Console Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial. Each military group in the county should write a letter expressing their thoughts. We will send a letter that the Cambria County War Memorial name cannot change. Inside sponsorship such as the Ice Rink are okay. Chuck Hoffman made the motion. Jerry's Strittmatter second emotion. Was approved.

At the meeting the budget Committee Chairman Randy Reynolds went over the budget with the members. A motion to prove the budget was made by a Bill Petruank and Second by Bob Poole. The members passed the budget.

B. Rich John's checked on a trip to the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, he checked on buses, hotels, and food. One place was called the Globe and Laurel restaurant. Van, Hotel, would be a proxy $141.00 dollars, no food tax. Will leave Friday afternoon making stop at the Bob Evans for lunch and then once we get to the hotel just hang out till the morning.

C. Possible dates for this trip to the Marine Corps Museum are April 29, May 20th, June 3, or June 10. Will have 2/15 passenger vans which equals 30 people.

A. The Christmas party Committee Chairman Rich John's remind us, of the Christmas party on December 19, 2015. Will have a band. The address is 35 Main St. in Conemaugh

 

B. The, Commandant Ed Forster reminded us to bring a $10 or $15 gift for a male or female. Not required, but would be nice. The list has 53 people coming total.

 

C. We might have to borrow from the Ritual team if we need to pay for the party. Motion was made by Driscoll, second by Petrunak.

D. There is no dress code for the Christmas party, but you should look nice, It's Christmas. The meal consisted of chicken, meatballs, Rigatoni, Parsley. Potatoes and dessert.

B. Mailboxes for flags. We need to check with Gander Mountain and planet fitness to find another spot for a new box. Suggested by Terry Walsh.

C. Dues are Coming in. The roster is not perfect, and is still at the National level.

D. Life membership dues are age 36-54 400.00 age 51-64“$300. 65- up $200.00 and 35 and under is $500. It would be best if you become a life member. Think about it.

 

E. Detachment thanked Dwight Weaver and Andy Schneider for the pizza tonight. Only December 2016 is open next year for anyone who would like to bring in food. That Christine would like to now what kind of food you will be bringing.

A. Bill Davis announced on July 23 he received a message from Vietnam Dog tags returned. Brian March found a dog tag brought into Dürer and wants all dog tags returned. Approximately 500-1000 dog tags were returned.

 

 

 

 

B. A person is deceased and lives in Johnstown or New Florence. Bill called a lady and found out it was for his father. Bill has the dog tags. He died at age 53

C. There will be a ceremony on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 2 PM to give the dog tag back to the family his brother. The ceremony is in Central Park. Everyone is invited.

D. There will be a story in the Tribune on August 6, 2015. We will get some publicity

E. Doug Legentelder informed the detachment about the trip to Washington D.C. that will be going on the 12th and 13th December. Which is a Saturday or Sunday to visit memorials. We will be having lunch at the National Harbor lunch area. Will ask for Marine Corps League to donate some money. Exact price not known yet, should have information by next meeting. Bill Pretriak and Bob Lohr are taking the names.

F. The Buzz Wagner ceremony up at the airport on October 23, 2015. for the dedication at the airport this is a tentative.

A. Doug LegenFelder says that the Sgt. Strank Film is going to be

put on PBS, trying to make the film an hour-long. They also are trying to

put the films in schools. Need Marines to donate money. Doug will try to

 

get the Air Force to donate also.

B. Ron Shorto made a motion to pass the hat, which was approved by the members. The hat was passed and we collected $202.00

C. Mark Lance has the next months food. Mike ofSanko and Bill Davis said that will help him out.

D. Half a dozen members never got the gold shields. Randy the paymaster has paid for them, and we should be receiving them soon.

E. Ed Forster the Commandant has got prices for a Christmas party from Anthony's, and the hall in Conemaugh, the St. John's Conemaugh Hall. There will be booze. The date is December 19th. Motion was made by Bill Davis, and Bill Smith second the motion. Members approved. The cost is $20. But the League will pay for the members. So the cost will be $20 per couple. Approved to go to the St. John's Hall and Conemaugh.

F. Duffy Hines mentioned about Ed Forster getting eight new members and receiving a plaque. It's for second place. Ed Forster the Commandant said all members are eligible to receive various awards. At the Department Convention election of new officers was performed. Duffy Hines was elected as Department state judge advocate. And Ed Forster has taken over as District 7 Vice-Commandant.

B. On December 12 and 13th of 2015 a trip to DC is being planned. We will get to see a Silent Drill Team from the Air Force drill team. We will be eating at the Officers Club again this year. We will be Staying at the Anacostia- Bouling Air Force Base and then Visit Arlington on the last day.

C. George Petrie became a Life Member and he received his gold card.

D. Bud Lohr received a call from the league and wanted to send two men out. He thinks it was a scam. Duffy said it is about life insurance and no one needs to respond to the card.

E. Doug LegenFelder said there will be a designation to Buzz Wagner at the airport this fall.

F. Ed Forster the Commandant mentioned the November 1, 2015 recognition ceremony, that will be going on at the War Memorial and think everyone should attend.

A On September 12th a recognition of the Hall of Fame. Cambria County POWs will be recognized. Patriots families will be recognize five or more siblings. November 1st, recognition of veterans who served during Vietnam era.

B. Cambria County has another Van to get to Altoona VA. Now we have two vans. Someone donated a van. We need drivers. The vehicle was bought by all donations

C. Discount card for the Cambria County veterans will start being giving out at the beginning of July

D. Tim Lentz said that Jack Patterson's 69th anniversary. A Card will be passed around for signatures. Reed May will get a card also. Dwight Weaver will you also get a card.

E. Jerry Horvath thanked the detachment for the card that he received for his sister passing away.

F. Julius Porcher thank the detachment for the card, when his wife was placed in a nursing home.

G. The State Advocate General approved our change to the $.55 a mile for travel, in our bylaws.

H. Mike OfSanko the commander of Sgt. Strank VFW said that the ceremony that we had on Sgt. Strank will be in the Semper Fi magazine.

I. Five Kiosks will be located to show Sgt. Stranks ceremony.

A. May 29 and the 30th is the Department's Pistol Match.

B. A Color Guard is needed for Spouse Appreciation Day on Friday. Volunteers were Tim Lentz ,George Petree, Bob Lohr and Ken Koslow.

C. Saturday, 9 May the Special Olympics at the Richland High School at 8:30 AM . The Volunteers to participate was Bob Lohr, William Petruniak, and Ed Ryan and Steve Ryan.

D. On Memorial day there is a ceremony at Jerome at 8:30 am also there is one at Sandyvale at 9 AM. The volunteers for the Sandyvall is Bud Lohr, Jeff Layton, Ron Shorto and Bud Lite. There will be a ceremony downtown on Market and Main St. performing a ceremony at the detachment monument.

E. Commandant Ed Forster brought up to the members if they would rather have a Picnic or a Christmas party this year. By show of hands gone to be the Christmas party.

C. Volunteers are needed for May 16 at Steger's to sell tickets. Bob Poole and Ken Costlow volunteered to sell tickets.

D. Pet Therapy Day is in the same place where the people can sell tickets. No change to set up.

D. JoAnne Knapp donated money in honor of Helen Knapp, that was donated by the organizations she belong to.

E. District 7 Senior Vice- Commandant Duffy Hines said he will

donate money if he wins on a ticket.

F. Armed Forces day is being held in Ebensburg, also tomorrow is National Prayer Day, it will be noted at Ebensburg.

B. Randy the paymaster brought up the subject about the Detachment picnic we have in August 7, 2015. Was put to the members to see if we still want a picnic. The cost for the privilon is $180. A suggestion that maybe we want to do a Christmas party instead.

A. Randy is Chairman of the Pistol Match Team. There will be a pistol match at the end of May in Indiantown Gap. He will have the forms for the pistol match at the Mays meeting. There will also be a rifle match Team. Matt Luck will be the Chairman of that. We try to carpool for the matches. Matt says they practice at Daisytown and he has extra weapons. So if anyone would like to shoot..

Chuck Hoffman reported all the finances and what we received in other donations. A. Mike of Ofsanko's on the committee to help the Sgt. Strank/Iwo Jima Memorial Ceremony, which will be held on February 21 11:00 am at the Franklin borough municipal building. Commandant Ed Forster will take this information to the State meeting. There is a possibility that the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps may attend or at least a three-star general.

 

B. February 23 is original date for the anniversary of Iwo Jima but the ceremony will take place on the 21st instead. There is still a discussion about what's going on the 21st and the 23rd in February.1

A. Joann Knapp thanked the detachment for the ceremony that we performed for her mother our fellow Marine, Helen Knapp. A donation of $370 was given to the Scholarship Fund, and $200 was given to the Commandant to be utilized in the general fund.

B. The Sgt. Strank/Iwo Jima ceremony is being conducted by Randy Reynolds who is the Chairman, and needs people for a Committee. Will be meeting on January 30, 2015 at 10 AM at Franklin borough Municipal Building.

C. Randy Reynolds talked about the Bus Trip to Washington D.C. in December. The trip was very successful and everyone enjoyed themselves. Randy also thanked Mike Ofsanko of the Sgt Strank VFW for the donation of $70 to cover the snacks.

D. Tony Sherron made the announcement that there will be a meeting in February, at the Masonic Temple to discuss the health of Cambria County. A date will be announced later on

C. Doug also informed the members about the Washington D.C bus trip happening on December 13 and 14th. If anyone is interested see Randy or Bill Petrunak.

D. Commandant Ed Forster spoke about the War Memorial Museum, that they need Volunteers to monitor when it is open, in order to get a Grant.

E. Ed also spoke about a Charity he is working with to collect clothing for veterans, If anyone has any cloths that they would like to donate see Ed. The charity group is called Tomorrow's Hope.

C. The Share and Caring program that we make donations to, The Friends of the Hospitalized Veterans we donated $200.

D. The Detachment Picnic that was held in August had a fairly good turnout. The cost for the picnic was $1022.75 and the intake was $681.00. $400.00 came out of the General Fund to pay on the picnic.

E. The August Lottery Tickets are doing well, please keep up the good work.

A. Matt Luck made the announcement about the Rifle Ranges Team that goes September 6 and September 7. Need to be up at the Reade Range in Altoona by 6:30 AM. Also announcement about the Air Force Honor Guard which will be performing up at the Richland high school at 1 PM and also at 6 PM during the Richland Community Day.

 

B. Dennis Pentrack has only a few Red books left, and brought them to the meeting. He also gave a Red books to Petrie and Marty the new corpsman. In the Red Binders is a copy of the Bylaws. If you are without one, please see Dennis Pentrack, he will get you one. Dennis also mentioned about the devil dogs that Bob Lohr and Julius Porcher were honored as Pedigreed Devil Dogs. Also he announced that Andy Snyder had a birthday party on July 21, 2014 and there was approximately 10 people attended the birthday party.

C. Senior Vice Commandant Dwight Weaver gave out 5-10-15 year awards. Gary Fry was a recipient of the award but, Jerry Horvath thought he had passed away four years ago. Chaplain will check on it.

A. Jr/Vice Matt Luck spoke about the ticket sales, we did well last time. Lets do the same for August. Come see him to get your Tickets .

B. Matt Luck also announced that the Detachment was selling Lottery tickets at Steger's on June 26 if anybody was interested. Ed Forster and Randy Reynolds would be there selling tickets. They will sell tickets from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

 

C. Picnic chairman Rich Johns spoke about the Flyers going, about the detachments picnic which is on August 3, 2014.

D. Rich Johns also spoke about the progress of the DAR monument, and the flagpole that will be put in soon as it is completed.

A. Marine Mike Ofsanko thanked the detachment for the $200 donations to be put towards the Sgt. Strank Memorial Park.

B. Michael Ofsanko also informed the detachment that the monument for the Sgt Strank Memorial Park, will be done and will be put into the park in the near future.

C. Ed Forster the Commandant presented Joe Babic his life membership card and pin.

D. Mis Alice Mason donated $25.00 to the Detachment saying thank you for what you do for the Veterans

A. Mrs. Gibbons of the VFW auxiliary in Central city was asking about some support for the VA hospital of a donation of $100. A motion was made by Matt Lock, and second by Bill Peturank and the members approved.

B. The National Convention will be held in Charleston West Virginia on August 2, 2014 to August 10,2014.

C. The Detachment Annual Picnic will be on August 3, 2014. Richard Johns will Chair the Committee.

 

 

 

D. Bob Fetzer said thank you for the get well wishes and Card.

E. They Detachments meeting that was being held on August 6th will be changed to August 13, 2014 due to the Commandant Ed Forster and Paymaster Randy Reynolds will be at the National Convention from the 6th to the 11th August.

F. Don Meyer spoke to Detachment about a donation for the Junior Miss pageant at the Shade High School that his Great-Granddaughter was participating, her name is Autumn Bradybough. Donation was $219.00. A motion was made to pass the Hat by: Jerry Strittmater, Second by: Bill Gibbons. Members approved.

A. On May 9, Military Spouses Appreciation Day the Color Guard will meet 11:15 am at the War Memorial downtown Johnstown. Ceremony will start at 12:00 pm.

B. Ed Ryan spoke about the Special Olympics which is being done at Richland high school on May 10th . It will start at 9:00 AM. He would appreciate anybody who would show up to do the color guard as well as handout medals to the young Athletes.

A. Dennis Pentrack withdrew his motion to make a donation of $200.00 to the VCI which was to be used for helping out the Homeless Veterans. It seems that the VCI does not have a Homeless program.

B. A motion was made by Dwight Weaver to take the $200 donation that was planned for VCI and give it to the Sgt. Strank VFW, to put on the Memorial program. Motion was made by Dwight Weaver, Second by Ron Shorto. Members Approved.

A. Mrs. Gibbons spoke about the school program Loyalty Day that the Marine Corps League Conemaugh Valley Det. #287 participated with, the Color Guard and Thank them for a job well down. She also presented a Plaque to the Det. for a Job well done

B. Ed Forster made the announcement about on May 26 Memorial Day that we do Ceremonies. We will be performing at Jerome that starts at 9:30 am, then we go to Richland Woods Assistance Living Home that starts at 10:45. Then we go down to Market and Main Street to our Memorial to perform our ceremony down there at the 11:30 AM.

C. May 26 Dennis Pentrack will be in charge of a Color Guard detail that will be performing at the SandyVille parade they would need to be there by 9:30am.

D. Dennis Pentrack spoke about the buzz Wagner Memorial In his name for his services in World War II. A donation of $200, The motion was made by Bill Gibbons, There was second by Ron Shorto. Members approved.

A. Dennis Pentrack Judge Advocate submitted request for a Amendment in the Detachment Polices and Procedures on changes to Reimbursement of Travel and Hotel Expeneces. See attached Letter that was handed out by Dennis Pentrack.

B. Dennis Pentrack brought up the changes for the policy procedures for the reimbursement and expenses for trips and meetings. A motion was made by Bill Gibbons, and second by Bob Poole. The members approved.

A. Mrs. Gibbons spoke about doing a ceremony at the shade elementary school for the students on loyalty Day which is May 1, 2014. A motion was made by Don Myers for 200 flags to handout and was second by Ken Koslow. Members approved.

B. Mike OfSanko spoke about donations of poppies.

C. Dennis Pentrack brought up a subject about a donations to the veterans committee initiative and it was postpone and tabled it until the next meeting. Commandant Ed Forster suggested passing the hat.

A. Commandant Ed Forster handed out membership pins that had not been received by the members.

B. Dennis Pentrack spoke about the last ritual, that the ritual team did and how everyone did a great job, and the attendance was great for the prayer service and cemetery service.

C. Commandant Ed Forster the ritual commander and Dennis Pentrack encourage everyone to try and attend rituals if at all possible. It's a privilege to do this for our fellow Veterans.

D. Tim Lentz had a question about uniform for the prayer services for the ritual team. The question was answered by the Commandant Ed Forster who is also the ritual team commander the uniform is Short sleeve shirt w/ribbons and badges and Blue trousers

A. Paymaster/A Randy spoke about the Iwo Jima/Sgt Strank Ceremony held at Franklin Bough On Feb 22 2014. The Ceremony did go as planned. And was very successful, and a large attendance of the local community was great and the Veterans Organization in the Area. I would like to Thank my committee members for a job well done.

B. Matt Luck informed the Members that Ticket sales will go on February 14th 2014 and March 15th 2014 at Stagers Store.
